Reading Roundup: “Defiant Joy”

Finding joy in the midst of tragedy and happiness seems impossible.  The events that we face in our everyday lives impact our ability to be happy.  However, the Bible calls for us to “be joyful always”.  Always.  Not just when the events in our life are positive, but it even when we are at the lowest of lows.  In the valleys and the trenches.

God wants for us to be joyful, and it is intended to be ours.  Joy and happiness are not synonymous.  We can be unhappy in a situation but joyful because we know that God’s love never fails.

I found this book to be inspirational and challenging.  I am someone who struggles with anxiety and PTSD.  I have had a lot of tragedy in my life.  Finding joy in the midst of that tragedy is not something that I have ever attempted to do, until now.  Since starting this book, aspects of my life have been turned upside down.  Rather than focus on the negative, I am training my brain to still be joyful, as the Bible calls for us to do.
