Review: The Unbreakable Faith Course from Pilgrim’s Rock, LLC.

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor compensated in any other way.

I am a self-proclaimed nerd, and proud of it.  I am also a Christian, and I love learning more about my faith, and how to defend my faith. Christian apologetics is something that I have always found fascinating, yet inadept at. It is this love of learning, and this weakness, that had me absolutely ecstatic to review The Unbreakable Faith Course from Pilgrim’s Rock, LLC.

To aide me in my endeavors, I was also give the two required books for the course.  “God The Reason” and “The Box” are both written by Craig Beihl, who is also the developer of Pilgrim’s Rock, LLC.

The Unbreakable Faith Course is designed to be self-paced, but must be completed in 36 weeks.  This means that the user can work through the course without the worry of due dates hanging over their heads.  I am a go-getter, and hardly ever procrastinate, so this is something that works well for me.

The Unbreakable Faith Course is divided into parts that six parts.  Parts 1-5 are designed for knowledge acquisition and assessment.  The user must complete the required readings, as well as view the required videos.  Each part contains a quiz that assesses the mastery of the content.  Part 6 is the final examination.  Quizzes are worth 75% of the final grade, and cannot be taken over, with the final exam being worth 25%.

The Unbreakable Faith Course contains a syllabus with the essential information.  This includes contact information for Dr. Biehl, and the course calendar. The syllabus was essential for me to know what I needed to do.  While each part is identified within the website, I didn’t always have internet access when I was completing the readings.

In order to fully review this product, I must break it down in varying components to tell you what worked and what didn’t.

For starters, the website was easy to navigate.  Each part is clearly labeled.  Within each part, is a detailed listing of what must be completed, including the links to the videos.

The videos were informative and correlated with the readings.  The videos were lengthy, averaging about 13 minutes per video.  As a homeschooling momma of three, it was hard to find that much time to devote to watching a video.  Often, I would be interrupted and had to pause the video so that I could address whatever issues my children were having.

The books were well written and contained a lot of information.  Between the two, “The Box” was the easier read.  I was able to finish it in a day.  It was written in a narrative form and was about a conversation between an atheist and a believer.  “God the Reason” was less of an enjoyment for me to read, as it tends to be more informational.  I am currently on chapter 7.  The chapters are lengthier, which takes me longer to read.

The quizzes were hard.  I am a typically a straight A student.  The first quiz, I scored a 76%.  There was so much information to learn between the readings and the books, that I had trouble narrowing down the information.  I think that a viewing/reading guide would have been beneficial to help with this.

The amount of time required for this course is extensive.  It is designed to be 36 weeks long, although it can be completed faster than that.  I feel that the amount of work required makes it worth the cost of the course.  The cost is $37 for the parent/facilitator and $37 for each student, plus the cost of the books.

Overall, I have enjoyed The Unbreakable Faith Course, and look forward to working through it.  I am finding valuable information to help me defend my faith to the unbeliever.  Apologetic principles are something that I have had problems within the past, but I already feel more equipped.
