Review of The Action Bible Anytime Devotions from David C Cook.

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

I want to raise children who don’t just believe in God but turn to God in everything they do.  I don’t want my children to say they are Christians, I want them to BE Christians.  We have incorporated a bible school curriculum into our homeschool lessons, and I am always on the lookout for other items to use that will strengthen their walk with God.  I could not have been more excited to be given the opportunity to review The Action Bible Anytime Devotions from David C Cook.

About The Action Bible Anytime Devotions

The Action Bible Anytime Devotions is 200-page paperback book.  It is written for children 8-12, in grades 4th-6th.

Through the course of the devotions, readers will experience devotions that explore topics such as faith, hope, strength, and courage.

The devotions use very strong images that will help the reader:

Learn God’s Word with an action verse

Apply it to what’s happening in their life

Relate it to real people from the Bible

Think about it to help them grow

Talk to God using quick prayers guides

Share with others through questions and simple action

Take it further by going back to the Bible.

Each of the 90 devotionals contain a Bible verse.

Following the Bible verse, the reader will experience a devotional story that related to the verse. The devotional then relates the devotional story to a story form the Bible.

Each devotional also has key points for the reader.

At the end, there is a “Take It Further” that has the reader dig deeper into the Bible.

What Did We Think?

From a parent’s perspective, I love that the devotionals are easily identified based on their topic.

This is indicated in the Table of Contents, as well as on the right-hand side of the devotional page.

This allowed me to easily pick a devotional that matched an issue, or theme.  For example, if one of my children were in need of a devotional about courage, I was able to search the table of contents and quickly identify 11 devotionals that dealt with this topic.

I also loved the conciseness of the devotionals.  I understand that children have short attention spans.  If the devotionals were long, then they would not listen or would be more apt to tune-out.

My children, especially my boys, loved the comic book style illustrations.  They thought that it made the devotionals more interesting and helped them understand the stories better.

We plan to continue using the The Action Bible Anytime Devotions.  This has been a wonderful addition to our family routine, and the lessons that my children have learned through interacting with it has already proven invaluable.
