Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.
My children love art. It is one of their favorite subjects. They love learning about artists, as well as creating their own works of art. While their talents vary, they equally enjoy the process. This is why Beginner Level, Art Core 1, Drawing with Graphite Pencils from ARTistic Pursuits was such a great addition to our family resource library.
WHAT IS IT?
ARTistic Pursuits has a wide variety of products available to teach students about art. Their products vary from learning about period art, such as the Renaissance, to method art such as the product I am reviewing.
For Beginner Level, Art Core 1, Drawing with Graphite Pencils the user is taught the elements of art. They are taught the six elements through the units in book and video form.
There are four types of lessons:
The Art Materials Video Instruction is used to show the students what materials they will be using and how to use them. The videos vary in length from about 6 to 10 minutes. This is found on the first page of each unit.
The second page of each unit is devoted to “Creativity: Building a Visual Vocabulary”. This helps the student understand the topic through using words and pictures. They are able to build connections from the topic to the read world.
The third and fourth page of the unit teaches the student about the American Art Appreciation and History. They learn how the topic is used in works of art, as well as learning about the artists and their artwork.
The fifth and sixth pages are for the master lesson. The student is able to create their own work of art by applying the elements they have learned.
What is included?
Beginner Level, Art Core 1, Drawing with Graphite Pencils is a hardcover, 64-page book that contains 36 lessons. It also includes a blu-ray and dvd that contains 9 video lessons.
The cost is $49.99.
There is also an online component that gives the user access in digital format.
During the review period we worked every day on art lessons. Normally, we would not be able to attribute this amount of time, however, it worked out that we could. It is suggested that students work through two classes per week, for about an hour at a time.
This is not our first time reviewing ARTistic Pursuits products, so we understood the overall process. However, even if we were first-time users, we would have been able to easily follow the format.
The lessons are written with the student in mind. They are easy to follow, and really require no adult supervision. My children were able to navigate the DVD by themselves. We keep the art materials in an easy to access location, and they are able to get the materials they need.
My children were able to create works of art that they were proud of. They loved the creative aspect of the lessons. They loved being able to choose their own objects or pictures to draw. This allowed them to have works of art that were different from each other.
Overall, ARTistic Pursuits hit it out of the park with Beginner Level, Art Core 1, Drawing with Graphite Pencils from ARTistic Pursuits . (Can you tell our communities Little League program has started and I am in softball/baseball mode?)
